Pirramimma
Alexander Campbell Johnston planted his first small vine cutting in 1892 and today the Johnston family still produce estate grown wine and operate one of Australia’s oldest wineries – Pirramimma. The word Pirramimma is an Aboriginal phrase meaning “the moon and the stars”.
Winemaking at Pirramimma has been a family affair for well over 100 years and is now in the very capable hands of Geoff Johnston, grandson of the winery’s founder.
Over 60% of the 180 hectares are planted in premium red wine varieties, including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot (Australia’s very first 100% Petit Verdot). Pirramimma has embraced biological farming and sustainable practice producing outstanding fruit.

This bright and vibrant wine exhibits a bouquet of cherries, strawberry and raspberry with subtle cedar oak. The palate delivers raspberry, blueberry and cassis complemented with toasted cedar oak.

Exhibits aromas of blackberry, raspberry, spicy plum and toffee apple with hints of pomegranate and pepper. On the palate this rich intense wine displays spicy mulberry & ripe red cherry, Christmas pudding and chocolate notes, complemented by a seam of cranberry and star of anise.

The fruit for this wine was harvested during the night to get the excellent parcel of Shiraz and tiny portion of ripe Viognier at optimum flavours !!!

This rich and vibrant wine displays an aroma of black olive, raspberry, bramble, prune plum and hints of cedary french oak complemented by sweet apricot notes. The palate exhibits black cherry, cranberry, blueberry and satsuma plum, with tinges of dates and black briary fruits all enhanced by firm tannis, subtle nutty vanilla oak and a long sustained finish.

The wine has a lifted bouquet of Kirsch cherries, violets, boysenberry and cedary oak. With the palate exhibiting spicy blackberry, musk, tangy morello cherry and Santa Rosa plum, complemented by hints of blueberry and Kalamata olive. The fine grain textured tannins, subtle oak and savoury varietal flavours are beautifully integrated in a long sustained finish.

The blend used for this aged Tawny was made from Shiraz and Grenache varieties of various selected ages. Brick red in colour, displaying a bouquet of toffee apple, caramel and stewed plum. Rich and full bodied showing sweet old wood, chocolate and rancio characters. Luscious mouth feel, with a long lasting finish.

The 2020 vintage growing conditions of warm days guaranteed distinctive varietal characters in the small crop of Cabernet Sauvignon. Sourced from the selected blocks of Estate Cabernet and matured in French Oak barriques for 24 months, this wine has a bouquet of cherries, blackcurrant, mocha and cedary oak. The depth of fruit follows through on the palate with blackcurrant, mocha and generous red fruits complemented by generous oak tannins.
